If you are frightened

 

In thee, O Lord, do I seek refuge;

let me never be put to shame;

in thy righteousness deliver me!

Incline thy ear to me,

rescue me speedily!

Be thou a rock of refuge for me,

a strong fortress to save me!

Yea, thou art my rock and my fortress;

for thy name’s sake lead me and guide me,

take me out of the net which is hidden for me,

for thou art my refuge.

Into thy hand I commit my spirit;

thou hast redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

Psalm 31:1-5

 

Be with me, O Lord my Shepherd, and help me to feel your presence amid this frightening darkness that surround me: defend me from all danger, comfort me as a sheep of your fold, and keep me safe now and ever more. 

 

If you are anxious

 

The Lord is near. Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

 

Be our light in the darkness, O Lord, and in your great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of your only Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.

 

If you are lonely

 

For it is the God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. 

2 Corinthians 4:6

 

Be with me now, O Risen Christ, in my loneliness: keep me mindful of your presence and never-failing care, and relieve my condition by your sustaining love. 

 

 

Prayers for Guidance

Do not look forward to what may happen tomorrow; the same everlasting Father who cares for you today will take care of you tomorrow and every day.
Either God will shield you from suffering, or will give you unfailing strength to bear it. 

 

Be at peace, then. Put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations, and say continually: "The Lord is my strength and my shield. My heart has trusted in Him and I am helped. He is not only with me but in me, and I in Him." 

 

Prayer for the evening

O Lord support us all the day long, until the shadows lengthen and the day is past. and the busy world is hushed. And the fever of life is over. 

Then in Thy mercy, grant us a safe lodging and a perfect rest, and peace at the last. Amen.
